An Extension for Henley Mill, Somerset

Henley Mill is now a tranquil home in the Somerset countryside, but it was formerly a water powered paper mill set atop the River Axe.

Working closely with our clients, it was established that the existing side extension and conservatory were no longer fit for purpose, having been ineffectively designed and built many years ago. The brief thus became to demolish these and replace them with modern extensions over the existing footprint, as well as to create a new 2 storey front entrance volume.

One particularly interesting and novel feature of this site is the mill race that still runs underneath the property, creating certain structural and design issues to be resolved.

Using our 3D visualisation tools, we were able to create a simple 3D model of the site, existing main house and proposed extension ideas in order to aid with the iterative design process.

We have since received planning permission and appointed a builder for the works. We look forward to updating on this project with another blog post once construction has gotten underway.
