Urban Regeneration
There are approximately 26 million existing residential units (Houses and flats) in the UK and over 2 million existing commercial buildings, and 80% of the population live in urban areas which cover only 20% of the land area of the UK.
These facts, linked to the UK Government’s commitment to reduce Carbon emissions by 80% before the year 2050 (based on 1990 levels), place enormous significance on how we deal with the existing building stock. Demand for modern living and work spaces that are energy efficient is likely to increase as energy prices rise, so we feel that the intelligent, creative and energy efficient reuse of existing buildings will be one of the most significant challenges over the next 40 years.
