The existing building is a Grade ll Listed building which was originally a work house and more recently the local hospital. The scheme involved the conversion of the building into apartments and the construction of a new building to the rear with two floors of apartments over a partly underground car park. The challenges of the existing building are common to many conversion schemes, namely forming workable and efficient spaces within a building designed for a completely different purpose. This was successfully achieved through the creative use of new structure to open up small existing spaces and to relocate load bearing walls.
