The UK Government's commitment to reduce Carbon emissions by 80% before the year 2050 (based on 1990 levels), place enormous significance on how we deal with the existing building stock. Demand for modern living and work spaces that are energy efficient is likely to increase as energy prices rise, so we feel that the intelligent, creative and energy efficient reuse of existing buildings will be one of the most significant challenges over the next 40 years.
Urban locations are subject to a number of environmental issues which need to be successfully addressed to create sustainable living and working spaces. These include the external noise environment, air quality and the urban heat island effect where temperatures are consistently higher than in adjoining rural areas.
